VHF NFD 2004
Julian G0LBO & John M3LKD Operating 4m in the RAYNET Caravan.
View of the 7 element 6m beam on the RAYNET mast. Roland G0GZI is taking
in the view.
The top rotator clamp cracked under a very light load and had to be replaced before
the contest start. Rob is using his Land Rover workbench to do this.
The mast used for 2m was 3 pieces of aluminium scaffold pole end to end.
This view shows Simon G8ATB, John M3LKD, Steve G0DQQ working with
Craig and Chairman Richard keeping watch for marauding Indians.
Same team attaches the gin pole to pull the mast up.
Test lift of the mast shows bends because the rigging is uneven.
Retentioned the mast lifts straight. The Guys go to eight points eventually
but during the lift the top set is attached to the end of the gin pole
(Behind the camera)
With the 2m gin pole lattice showing above it assembly of the operators tent
is in progress. Richard M0ESL (now), John and Rob G8XMZ.
Rob and John attach the tent front by laceing the attached loops. Supposedly a 30 minute job for 4 squaddies
this tent seems to take us somewhat longer.
Brian G4DVS and Steve G0DQQ on 2m. That's sunshine too.
2Mtr Aerial nearly up. Nice straight pole.
Gin pole being attached to the 70cm mast foot while Peter puts on a brew now the generator is running.
2m gin pole is in the background. Featured are Jeff G8SIG, Peter G8HAV,
Richard G0JIT, John & Steve (working), Rob G8XMZ, Simon G8ATB and
Niall V0VOK
Peter making bacon butties for all. Which rather explains why no-one is looking this way.
Gin pole being removed now that the mast is up.
Simon G8ATB on the replacement 70cm tranceiver. The TS780 took ill and was
producing next to no drive for the linear. The kitchen was in with 70cm to keep
the operators' spirits up. 43 contacts in 24 hours!
Simon on the air and Peter on the tea.
