A great deal of interest was generated in the Club by the new series of "Backpacker's" contests
brought in by the RSGB VHF Contests Committee. These were targeted at people who did not have
or want to deploy the resources necessary to win a traditional QRO VHF Contest. They were limited to
3W or 10W and the spirit of the contest was that you should be able to carry the whole station
even if you did not actually do so.
These photographs show Julian G0LBO on Coniston Old Man in Cumbria.
The station comprises: Kenwood TR751E running 3W into a 9 element portable Tonna. The
antenna is supported on a 1 inch army surplus mast. CAIRO is used for the audio.
"You went down in that last over."
"That's because I was vertically polarised."
