1980

Many thanks to Garry G4IZL for the following pictures:

Leicester Club Visit to Winsford This picture shows members of the Leicester & Mid Cheshire Clubs in St Johns Community Centre in Winsford. The Leicester Club members had visited Jodrell Bank Radio Observatory and returned to Winsford for a Buffet and Junk Sale.
The buffet was laid on by Margaret Jeffery, June Starnes and Mavis Middleton.

The big image will show who most of the people are.

10GHz Merriton Low A Mr Rob Linton and (the late) Rick Dodd G8PNL setting up 10GHz on Merreton Low in the Derbyshire hills.

10GHz Merriton Low Rick and Rob again: The equipment would have used a broadcast receiver as a 100MHz IF. Once communication was established with another station (via 2m talkback) the audio was broadcast quality bandwidth.

G4IZL's Shack Garry G4IZL at home circa 1980. This very tidy shack sports a Trio TS700S (Digital Display) and QSL card from G2CPW (see below).

G4IZL Mini Mobile Garry's mini with TR3200 (12 channel 70cm tranceiver) and Icom IC240 below. Remarkably both these rigs are still in use with G8SIG & G8XMZ respectively!

Photo by Dave's new car This photo shows left to right:
Dave G4CAX,
Mike Pickup G8NKX,
Unknown (Phil CBQ??) &
Phil Middleton G8WBM.

The car was pretty new at this time so is probably Jan 1980. Note the big base loading coil for the HF vertical and substantial flares.

Photo taken at the old Belle Vue Rally. Thanks to G4CAX for this picture.

1980 JOTA

JOTA at Hartford, Oct 1980

Dave G4CAX running the HF side of JOTA at 1st Hartford Scout Headquarters. Nigel G8PLR with the dark glasses is operating VHF.

Photograph was taken by Hans (G8WXW at the time). Dave ran an HF only JOTA at Davenham the previous year.

Marton Park headquarters 1980

Marton Park just East of Winsford was a social centre for ICL Winsford. But it was sold soon after we moved in.
